Compact I²C 4–20 mA current-loop transmitter. The Linearin GP8212S 15-bit DAC converts digital commands from Arduino or ESP32 into an industrial current output. The 5 V input is boosted on the board to about 12 V for the loop driver. Open Arduino library, examples, and one-time 4–20 mA calibration are included.

Description

The UGE GP8212S module generates a standard 4–20 mA current loop from an I²C command. Use it to drive industrial inputs on PLCs, inverters, valves, sensors, and other 4–20 mA receivers.

The board uses a GP8212S-TC50-EW 15-bit DAC. With the onboard sense resistor, the full scale is 0–25 mA. The usual industrial range is 4–20 mA. A 5 V supply feeds an MT3608 boost converter that raises the DAC supply to about 12 V, so the module can be powered from USB or a 5 V Arduino pin.

Connect SDA, SCL, 5 V, and GND to an Arduino Uno or ESP32. Put the loop load on the screw-terminal output. A ~330 Ω, 1 W resistor is a good calibration load at 12 V. The Arduino library sets the current in milliamps, as a percent of the 4–20 mA span, or as a raw DAC code.

Accuracy is set once per board with a multimeter and the Calibrate4_20 example. The sketch prints a dac.calibrate4_20(...) line you copy into later programs. You do not recalibrate on every power-on.

Features

  • I²C to 0–25 mA current output (4–20 mA industrial use)
  • 15-bit DAC (GP8212S-TC50-EW)
  • Default I²C address 0x58
  • Works with Arduino (5 V) and ESP32 (3.3 V logic)
  • 5 V input, onboard boost to about 12 V for the current loop
  • Open Arduino / ESP32 library with sweep, set-current, and calibration examples
  • Two-point 4 mA / 20 mA calibration stored in your sketch
  • Optional save of the last current in the chip so it remains after power-off
  • Screw terminal for the loop output
  • Interactive BOM for users who solder a bare PCB
