Note: The “V2” in the name usually refers to this specific breakout board design, which includes a ceramic antenna, a backup battery, and an EEPROM.
Onboard EEPROM & Backup Battery: The module has an EEPROM to save configuration parameters. The built-in backup battery allows for hot starts (quick satellite acquisition) of about 1 second. The battery ensures the module remembers its last known position and saves time-to-fix data after a power loss.
Easy Integration: It communicates via a simple 4-pin UART TTL interface with a default baud rate of 9600, making it compatible with a wide range of microcontrollers.
Visual Status: An onboard LED blinks to indicate the satellite fix status. The LED will blink at a different rate to signal that a 2D or 3D position fix has been established.
Important: This module uses 3.3V logic levels, but its VCC pin accepts 3V to 5V power. A level shifter is generally not required when connecting to 5V systems.
Some reports indicate that modules may not always ship with the standard default settings of 9600 baud and NMEA protocol out of the box. If it doesn’t work immediately, you may need to check the configuration using u-center (u-blox’s configuration software) and set it to the expected settings.
